What Makes a Good Wedding Photographer?
How many time have you seen wedding portraits and pictures that seemed to blah and boring that they didn’t even hold the interest of those in the pictures? They seemed to be no more exciting than photos you would see in an encyclopedia or in school yearbooks.
At the same time you may have noticed wedding photographs that were just downright breathtaking. Something about the pose, the lighting, the setting, and the expression on everyone’s faces just really draws you in. They’re not just photographs but they’re true works of art.
How to Become a Good Wedding Photographer?
So what’s the difference? One set of photographs certainly documents the wedding so why are they so boring and dry? What really makes a good wedding photographer?
The real key to being a good or even a great wedding photographer is to not just capture and document everything that’s going on at a wedding but to really capture the emotion behind the events as well.
Obviously the most prominent emotion at any wedding is the love between the bride and the groom, but a really good wedding photographer knows that there’s so much more going on during that big day. What about the parents who are seeing their children start their new life together? What about the other family members and friends who are so happy for them?
Many weddings also have a certain feeling to them; this might be fun and whimsical such as for beach or outdoor weddings where the bride and groom add fun touches to the ceremony and reception. Others are very elegant and formal and perhaps have a timeless feeling. The bride and groom want everything to be “just so” and are more serious minded. Good wedding photographers know to carry these thoughts and feelings onto the photographs they capture. More casual weddings will mean more smiles and laughter whereas more formal weddings mean serious and formal settings.
Anyone can document a wedding with photos but if you keep in mind the importance of the day you realize that you need to do so much more than this. Those emotions need to be captured in photos so that they’re clear and visible and easily remembered even years after the big day.
